WTF is Additive Manufacturing?

Details

Have you heard the term “Industry 4.0”? Is it just a buzzword, or something more? And what does it mean for us humans? We will be diving into the ways 3D printing, additive manufacturing, robotics and other digital transformation developments are making the industrial sector more efficient.

We are thrilled to announce the following speakers for our event.

Max Meixlsperger and Dr. Dominik Rietzel; Heads of Additive Manufacturing – Metal and Non-Metal (respectively) at BMW Group.
Steven Schneider Data & AI Architect at Microsoft Germany
Moritz Doerstelmann; Guest Lecturer at TUM and Managing Director at FibR Tech
Michael Held; Director of Design at Steelcase.
Pascal Hien; Industrial Designer at Steelcase

What an amazing lineup! Check out their topics below.

Speaker 1: Curious Humans (10min)
Bree Harrison (becc agency) and Tatiana Couche (Microsoft), digital future event organizers and part-time wannabe comedians, give a very simplified human explanation of the history, advancement and shortcomings of additive manufacturing technology.

Speaker 2: Industry Experts (15min)
Max Meixlsperger and Dr. Dominik Rietzel (BMW Group) are fascinated by the places additive manufacturing technology can take us. Clever application of new technology is in the DNA of BMW. Max and Dominik will share with us how this technology is advancing digital craftsmanship and has contributed to the success of the all new BMW i8 Roadster.

Speaker 3: Industry Expert (15min)
Steve Schneider (Microsoft) will walk us through the digital transformation of German engineering including developments such as computer-aided design, augmented reality, digital twins and additive manufacturing and will share his predictions for future trends.

Speaker 4: Academic (10min)
Moritz Doerstelmann (TUM, FibR Tech)

Speaker 5: Concept Translator (15min)
Michael Held and Pascal Hien (Steelcase) can’t help but wonder: is any profession immune to the influence of digital transformation? Every day, we’re confronted with reports on the impact that intelligent systems and algorithms will have on low-skilled or process-driven roles, such as truck drivers, accountants and legal professionals. But, we tend to think that the so-called “creative” professions, such as design and the arts, will always require a human touch. After all, computers can’t be creative – or can they? Michael will explore how 3D printing and additive manufacturing affects the human creative processes and product development.
