Machine Learning in Academia and Industry

Details
Welcome to the first meeting of Women in Machine Learning and Data Science (WiMLDS) in Dresden!
The Women in Machine Learning & Data Science (WiMLDS) Meetup aims to inspire, educate, regardless of gender, and support women and gender minorities in the field.
All genders are cordially invited to attend this event.
In this event, we are going to introduce amazing women in ML/DS, each of whom will give us a glimpse into their respective fields and share with us their experiences of being a Machine Learning scientist or engineer in academia or industry. The evening will begin with talks, followed by Q&A session and open mic for everyone attending to share their experience and initiatives.
Have you been thinking about getting into the world of machine learning and want to know what it is like? or, you just want to hear about recent developments of ML in real world problems? You are all most welcome to join us!
Agenda:
18:00 Arrival and network
18:30 Introduction to WiMLDS activities
18:40 Talks/Presentations
19:40 Q&A/Open mic to share experiences and initiatives
19:45 Mingle and network
About our speakers:
Toni Das studied Physics at University College London where she completed her Masters and PhD. She has been working with AI4BD as a Machine Learning Engineer since May and is currently focused on data creation and solving Handwriting recognition problems using AI.
Bianca Preißler studied Media Computer Science at the University of Dresden. After her master's thesis in 2017, she started to work as a Machine Learning Engineer at AI4BD. Her current focus is on NLP and handwriting detection.
Toni Das and Bianca Preißler will give a joint talk about how to bring automatization to an industrial context using machine learning.
Exemplarily, as a showcase, they will present a workflow to extract information from digitized documents and discuss techniques, successes and challenges along the way.
Shima Asaadi is a PhD student in the Computer Science department at TU Dresden. Her PhD project focuses on designing and developing machine learning techniques to learn a model of language in Natural Language Processing (NLP). More specifically, She investigates word representation learning in NLP which is one of the central challenges in this area. She will be presenting recent advances of ML in NLP.
Nadeen Noaman works as a Cloud Infrastructure Architect at itelligence GmbH and preparing her Master’s thesis in ML in which she decided to develop a smart automation solution to predict and solve infrastructure related issues.
