Details

In the third round of our advent workshop series, we will focus on the very topic of DevOps!

You will learn how applications have been deployed traditionally and which problems usually occur along with this approach. Afterwards, we'll have a look at solving those problems using Docker and Kubernetes.

Particular focus will be on:

  • Defining and creating Docker images
  • Running systems via Docker locally
  • Automizing Docker deployments via Kubernetes
  • Creating infrastructure through Kubernetes

Prerequisites

In order to properly participate, we encourage you to have a Docker and Kubernetes environment available. The easiest way to install both is probably through Docker Desktop (https://docs.docker.com/desktop/).

After installing your Docker environment of choice, you can verify that it works via the following command:

  • docker run hello-world

Running this should render something like this on your terminal:

  • Hello from Docker!
  • This message shows that your installation appears to be working correctly.

Optionally, a Node.JS installation could be useful for a tiny part of the presentation.

Code of Conduct

All participants of our event are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. We are expecting cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free competition experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of competition participants in any form. Competition participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the competition at the discretion of the competition organizers. TL;DR: Be excellent to each other.
