Change Minds - Multiply Your Impact
Details
Effective Altruism is the process of finding out how to do the most good with our limited resources. For example, by donating to effective organizations, or by starting your own social project, or even simply by reconsidering your dietary choices you can do a vast amount of good over your lifetime. But arguably the best way to have the largest impact in the world is by convincing others to do good too. With every person you inspire with your actions you are effectively multiplying the amount of good you generate. This requires changing people's attitudes and behaviors about topics they might feel strongly about, which is a difficult task.
In this meetup we will talk about what decades of psychological studies can teach us about changing other people's minds. As Nick Cooney puts it, "A truly effective activist is a psychologist at heart". But whether or not you consider yourself an activist, there will be many ideas in this meetup that you can apply to your day-to-day life, from increasing your chances of closing a deal, to convincing people to donate to a cause or getting them to eat less meat.
The talk and discussion will be carried out in English. Afterwards we will offer drinks and vegan snacks. Here is the agenda:
19:00 - Doors open
19:15 - Welcome and introduction to Effective Altruism
19:30 - Talk: Change Minds – Multiply Your Impact, by Alfredo Parra
20:15 - Questions and Discussion
20:35 - Social
Looking forward to seeing you there.
