EA Meetup With Talks

Du möchtest Gutes tun? Wie entscheidest Du, für welche Zwecke Du Dich einsetzt? Wie gehst Du am besten vor, wenn Du zwei unterschiedliche altruistische Projekte miteinander vergleichen möchtest? Dieses schwierige Problem ist das Herzstück des Effektiven Altruismus. In unserem Treffen gehen wir es auf spielerische Art an: Wir spielen mit euch ein sogenanntes Giving Game. Und das geht so: Jeder von euch bekommt einen Gutschein über 10€, den ihr am Ende des Abends an eine von zwei Organisationen spendet. In Kleingruppen recherchiert und vergleicht ihr die Organisationen und erarbeitet euch so die Organisation eurer Wahl. Nach Ablauf des Abends wird jemand von uns die tatsächlichen Beträge an die beiden Organisationen spenden, genau so wie ihr euch entschieden habt. Auf diese Weise lernt ihr, wie man Effektiven Altruismus praktiziert und unterstützt dabei gleichzeitig eine Hilfsorganisation eurer Wahl, ohne dabei einen Cent Geld auszugeben - ziemlich effektiv, oder?

Wie gewöhnlich starten wir den Abend um 18:30 Uhr mit einem kurzen allgemeinen Einführungsvortrag zum Effektiven Altruismus. Dieser ist besonders für Neulinge geeignet. Danach geht es um 19 Uhr weiter mit dem Hauptthema des Abends, das Giving Game. Im Anschluss kann bei Snacks und Getränken noch ausgiebig weiterdiskutiert werden.

You would like to do good? How do you decide which cause to support? How would you compare two different altruistic projects and prioritize one over the other? This difficult problem is at the heart of Effective Altruism and at this meetup we will tackle it in a fun and engaging way–by playing the so-called Giving Game. Here's how it works: Each of you gets a 10€ voucher to donate to one of two pre-selected organizations. You work in small groups researching and comparing the organizations. After that you decide which organization to donate your 10€ to. After the event, a sponsor will make an actual donation to each of these two organizations in proportion to the decisions you made. This way you learn and practice Effective Altruism and at the same time contribute to an organization of your choice, without a cent of your own money. Pretty effective, right?

As usual, we begin at 18:30 with a short introductory talk on Effective Altruism in general. This is especially useful if you are new to the topic. After the introductory talk, around 19:00 we'll move on to the main topic of the evening: the Giving Game. You can then grab some snacks and drinks, meet people, and engage in discussions about Effective Altruism or anything else you are interested in.
