EA Meetup With Talks: Implications of the Conquistadors on AI Takeover

Dear friends of Effective Altruism,
We are excited to invite you to our next meetup. In a refreshing confluence of history and AI, Daniel Kokotajlo will talk about the implications of the conquistadors on AI takeover:
"One day I wrote a blog post on the conquistadors, because I thought that they were a historical counterexample to a naive but prevalent view of how difficult it would be for an AI to take over the world. I think it would be very easy, in the sense that the AI would not need to start out with very much resources/power at all, and would need only a small intelligence/technology/skill/experience/whatever advantage over its rivals. (This includes scenarios in which its rivals are other AIs). After writing that post I went and read a bunch of giant history books on the topic, but my conclusions remained the same."
Just as before, this meetup will take place online via video conference. We will leave out the introductory talk and dive directly into the main topic at 19:00.
People who are unfamiliar with Effective Altruism are encouraged to watch “What are the most important moral problems of our time?” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyprXhvGVYk) by one of the founders of Effective Altruism, William MacAskill, or the longer talk “Prospecting for Gold” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67oL0ANDh5Y) by Owen Cotton-Barratt as introductions to the topic.
Later on, there will be an opportunity to have a little discussion with others about Effective Altruism and other topics.

Nach dem Vortrag wird es die Gelegenheit geben, sich mit anderen über Effektiven Altruismus und vieles mehr zu unterhalten.
