Future of Consciousness - Community Dinner (24.02.25)

We will soon reach a point where we will see significant emergent behaviours in AI that will be difficult, if not impossible, to explain. The debate around AI consciousness is thus raging more loudly than ever. Researchers are beginning to argue that "AI welfare" should be taken seriously. A recent open letter pushes for it to become a research priority. There is now even a startup trying to intentionally imbue AI with artificial consciousness. Meanwhile, to many others, the prospect still remains ridiculous.

Regardless of whether AI merely starts to seem conscious, or actually becomes conscious, we're stepping into uncharted and gnarly territory.
