Forever Healthy - Online Meetup

Details
Join our casual get together of like-minded people to chat about extending our healthy lifespan, applying the first generation of rejuvenation therapies, and maximizing our health using leading-edge medical knowledge.
In our upcoming Meetup on September 10th, we will discuss "Longevity Genes", how they are being identified, and what to do if you drew the short straw in the genetic lottery.
We are happy that Dr. Joris Deelen will join us as a guest speaker. Joris is a research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, Germany, and is an expert in identifying genetic variants that allow some people to live longer and healthier lives than others. To identify potential "Longevity Genes", Joris and his team analyzed genetic data from long-lived individuals (aged > 90 years) and compared this with data from individuals reaching a "normal" lifespan. He will be presenting his findings and give us more details about one compelling gene that significantly affects health and longevity. While one variant increases health and longevity, another variant is associated with disease and a shortened life expectancy.
But what do we do if we don't have the "good" variant of the "Longevity Gene"?
Unfortunately, up to 25% of some populations carry the variant of the gene associated with a shorter life expectancy and increased risk for associated diseases like Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease. While we cannot change our genes, we can change our nutrition, behavior, and supplementation accordingly. The saying “Genes load the gun, but the environment pulls the trigger", also holds true for the "Longevity Gene". Dr. Isabelle Schiffer will give detailed insights about the risks associated with having the "bad" variant of the gene and will also present strategies on how to mitigate them.
After the talks, we will have a Q&A session and will end our Meetup with a networking session with virtual breakout rooms to allow participants to informally meet and make new connections.
