Details

The Heiligenberg has a lot of history and is a very powerful place. The beautiful adventure trail takes you through the mountains near Heidelberg. The Heiligenberg, which is north of Heidelberg, is next to the Neckar and the Rhine plains. It is an important historical site. It is in a place where you can see the countryside around it. The area's steep slopes and manageable plateau offered natural protection against enemies and could be easily defended. The settlement was built in the Neolithic period and developed into a centre of power and a place of worship by the Celts in the 4th/5th century BC. The Romans built places for their gods Jupiter and Mercury to be worshipped. In the Middle Ages, two monasteries were founded, but these were left empty in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Thingstätte
Thingstätte is a monument to the Nazi era. The Germanic Thing was a public meeting place. The theatre was used for propaganda, but it quickly became less important when radio was invented. The Thingstätte was opened by Goebbels in 1935. Since 1987, the complex has been used again for events.

After the hike, at around 4 p.m., we will go to a restaurant in Heidelberg.

== Ticket ==
For most people sharing a "Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket" will be the cheapest option to cover the costs for the transport. The ticket costs 89,00 € and is valid for up to 5 people. At the meeting point we will figure out the ticket situation and buy tickets according to our needs. Don't buy a "Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket" in advance. We will share the total costs of the Tickets needed by the number of people that want to have a spot on it. If you prefer to travel with an individual ticket, of course you can do that.

For people coming by car: We will meet at 11:40 at the main entrance of Heidelberg train station. Please be there in time!

== IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT "RSVP YES" AND "NO SHOW" ==
We have to put some simple rules in place to ease the planning and organizing of hikes and to allow more people to attend. Please don't RSVP YES to simply hold your spot on the event and then drop out at the last minute or simply not show up having decided to do something else that day. Doing so you are not letting other people attend the event, not attending yourself. Repeated history of NO SHOWS could lead you to be bumped to the waiting list or to be removed from the group. The RSVP time is usually closing 1-2 days before the event, in order for people on the waiting list to have time to prepare for attending. Out of respect for others please update your RSVP Status from YES to NO if you will not make it to participate, before the RSVP deadline. If you have to cancel your attendance after the RSVP time has closed, please send a message to the Organizers, so that people from the waiting list can jump in.

== Safety disclaimer ==
The organizers in this group aren't professional hike leaders. You are responsible for your personal safety. Please try and stay as safe as possible, use proper clothing and footwear, have water with you, be alert to the environment, watch out for outdoor dangers and stay on the trail always.
