Wine 🍷 Island hike in Groß-Umstadt #IV

The town of Groß-Umstadt, which is also known as the "Odenwald Wine Island", is nestled in the beautiful Tuscan-like landscape of the Odenwald.
This wine cultivation area is rather a small one in Germany and the wine produced there can seldomly be found on German wine menus, although it is classy and of high quality. The history of wine cultivation in the Odenwald can be documented as far back as 775 CE. We will explore the vineyards and will be tasting the wine later on, during our stop at an inn. Beside wine, soy is also cultivated in this area. The local farmers were looking for a high-protein plant that meets the wishes and requirements of consumers and found it in the form of soy. On the hike, the adventurous people among us will get the occasion to cross a suspension bridge, but there is also a bypass for the less brave ones 😉. Afterwards, we will pass beautiful paths towards our final stop, where the region’s wine will be awaiting us. There, we will once more have a beautiful view onto the Umstädter Herrnberg.

After the hike (around 16:30) we will go to a restaurant in Groß-Umstadt.

== Meeting point / Ticket ==
At the train station in Frankfurt at track 11 (Frankfurt Hbf) at 10:20.

Our train RE85 starts from platform 11 at 10:38 and we arrive at Groß-Umstadt-Mitte Bf at 11:33. We take the train RB86 (platform 1) back at 18:44 from Groß-Umstadt-Mitte Bf to Frankfurt Hbf (Change in Hanau, S9 platform 2) and will be there at 20:01.

For most people sharing a "Gruppentageskarte" (Group ticket) will be the cheapest option (if you don't have a Deutschlandticket) to cover the costs for the transport. The ticket costs 38,30 € and is valid for up to 5 people. At the meeting point we will figure out the ticket situation and buy tickets according to our needs. Don't buy a "Gruppentageskarte" in advance. We will share the total costs of the Tickets needed by the number of people that want to have a spot on it. If you prefer to travel with an individual ticket, of course you can do that.

For people coming by car: We meet at 11:33 at Groß-Umstadt-Mitte Bahnhof. Please be there in time!

We have to put some simple rules in place to ease the planning and organizing of hikes and to allow more people to attend. Please don't RSVP YES to simply hold your spot on the event and then drop out at the last minute or simply not show up having decided to do something else that day. Doing so you are not letting other people attend the event, not attending yourself. Repeated history of NO SHOWS could lead you to be bumped to the waiting list or to be removed from the group. The RSVP time is usually closing 1-2 days before the event, in order for people on the waiting list to have time to prepare for attending. Out of respect for others please update your RSVP Status from YES to NO if you will not make it to participate, before the RSVP deadline. If you have to cancel your attendance after the RSVP time has closed, please send a message to the Organizers, so that people from the waiting list can jump in.
