Our next speaker is Tobias Schubert from SICK AG. He received both his diploma and his Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Regensburg. After that, he was a postdoc at Wolfram Burgard’s autonomous intelligent system lab at the University of Freiburg for almost five years where he worked in the fields of machine learning, robotics, and neuroscience. In 2018, he switched from academia to industry and became a development engineer as part of the Deep Learning Initiative of SICK AG.
He will talk about "Applied Deep Learning: The Application of University Research in the Field of Deep Learning to Industrial Automations". After the talk, there is time for an open discussion. We invite you to stay and have a get-together. This event is free and open for everyone who is interested in the broad field of AI.
Abstract of the talk: Over the last years, deep neural networks have revolutionized the field of artificial intelligence and become the state of the art in university research in areas such as computer vision, speech recognition, and natural language processing. Recently, more and more companies use deep learning-based methods to solve industrial automation tasks. I am a member of the Deep Learning Initiative within SICK AG from Waldkirch, and we are one of these pioneers. In this lecture, I will talk about the steps necessary to move from university research to a robust, inexpensive and scalable industrial product. Since I know both worlds, in the second part of the lecture I will deal with the differences between working at the university and working in a company.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
