We will have the pleasure to host Professor Valéry Bezençon and Behavioral Scientist Jasmin Mahmoodi for a session about how to apply Behavioral Economics to promote Sustainable Behaviors.

Both presentation will last 20 minutes and will be followed with time for Q&A. The session will conclude with time for discussion/networking.

Valéry Bezençon - Fostering sustainable practices with behaviour change strategies

Valéry Bezençon is professor of marketing at the University of Neuchâtel. His interests revolves around consumer behaviour, social marketing and sustainable product marketing. He was previously a management consultant and is currently an expert for diverse public and private organizations that face a problem that can potentially be solved with behaviour change strategies.

This presentation will discuss the types of strategies that managers can devise to change the behaviour of their audience. It will focus on sustainability-related behaviours and consumption by providing examples and illustrations in various contexts.

Jasmin Mahmoodi - How Behavioural Economics can facilitate Sustainability: Testing novel electricity tariffs among Swiss consumers

Jasmin is a behavioural scientist and holds a Master of Science in psychology. She is passionate about behavioural economics and the digital economy and is concerned with applied, impact-driven research. Currently, Jasmin is working in the Consumer Decision and Sustainable Behavior Lab at the University of Geneva, where she is testing novel tariff designs and develops nudges to promote sustainable decisions and behaviours.

The talk will outline how behavioural economics can contribute to promote sustainable consumption by giving an example where insights from psychology and behavioural economics have been used to promote sustainable decisions and behaviours. A study will be presented that tested the effectiveness of novel tariff designs and their acceptance among electricity consumers in Switzerland. The talk will further address nudging strategies and implications of these findings for sustainable decisions and behaviours.
