Hacks/Hackers #30 - Learning from Science

Details
Dear Hacks & Hackers crowd,
We are warming up February with our next journalism/technology meet up in collaboration with Mozilla Science lab! What can we learn from out scientific counterparts? Join us to find out as we bring in the fabulous Mozilla Science fellows to talk about what they use to work with data.
The Mozilla Science Lab is a part of the Mozilla Foundation, that coordinates open assets, resources, repos and programs to support a community, in this case, the scientific community.
Abby Cabunoc-Mayes, Aurelia Moser, Joey K. Lee, Jason Bobe, Richard Smith-Unna and Christie Bahia will be coming in to talk about how science and science tools can help journalism.
Felix G Twitter @fxgr, @uselateral: Demoing Lateral / Newsbot. Tools to recommend relevant articles using machine learning.
Questions we hope to answer;
• How do scientists find their facts in the huge body of scientific literature?
• What are the rigours of science we can apply to journalism?
• How do you interpret scientific writings?
• How do you manage data? What is data mining?
As always, if you can help us find speakers, hosts or have a burning desire for a specific topic to be covered please contact us. Yes, please do.
Kind regards,
Hacks/Hackers organising team.
