Alongside Elbe from Hitzacker to Neu Darchau (21 km / moderate)

Moin, dear Hikers! The Elbe again, this time on the southwest bank and downstream from Hitzacker to Neu Darchau. After passing through Hitzacker, we'll take a quick tour through the historic old town before heading steeply uphill and following the Elbe Heights Trail. Despite the stunning views, you need to concentrate when hiking up and down several times on narrow, root-covered paths. Sure footedness is required, sturdy shoes are recommended. The route continues alternately through the Elbe floodplains and wooded areas until we reach Neu Darchau. Please bring all the food and drinks you will need for the day.

We'll meet at 9:45 at Hamburg Hbf on platform 13, section B, below the sign 'B' and take the train RE3 into the direction of Uelzen at 9:56. The train usually departs from platform 13 A-C, but check the displays for any changes on Saturday. After changing train in Lüneburg we will reach Hitzacker at 11:44. For the backtrip we will use a bus to Lüneburg and a train to Hamburg, where we should arrive at 19:05. Train and bus tickets are covered by Deutschland-Ticket. For people who do not own a Deutschland-Ticket, it's best to buy a 6-ring HVV day ticket.

As always, this is a free event, but voluntary donations are welcome and help me cover the costs of running the group. Nobody is expected to give, only do so if you can afford it and would like to. Look out for the violet donation box toward the end of the hike.
