Palingen Heath and Herrnburg Inland Dune on Saturday (20 km / moderate)

Moin, dear Hikers! Please don't be fooled, there is actually very little heathland in the Heath of Palingen and the Herrnburg Inland Dune is not exactly what you would imagine a dune to be. But if you enjoy discovering picturesque little moor lakes while walking along small footpaths through dark forests and if you like to pass through wide, green meadows that seem to stretch to the horizon, then you will understand why I love this trail so much. And yes, all of this is only a one hour train ride away from Hamburg.

This hike is in easy terrain, walking speed will be up to 4.5 km / h. It is planned to have two breaks along the way. Please bring your own snacks and drinks for the day; it is not possible to stock up during the way.

The train RE8 in the direction of Lübeck starts in Hamburg Hauptbahnhof at 10:06 from platform 6 (usually, but check the displays on Saturday!). We'll change train in Lübeck (to RE2 in the direction of Bad Kleinen at 11:02) and arrive in Herrnburg at 11:11. For the backtrip from Herrnburg we will take one of the hourly trains and should be back in Hamburg at either 17:53 or 18:53.

We meet at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof on platform 6, section E, below the sign 'E' at 9:50. Alternatively, if you start somewhere else or would like to have your peace and quiet during the journey, we will meet at 11:11 at the Herrnburg train station. Without a Deutschland-Ticket, buying a Schleswig-Holstein-Ticket is the best option for the trip. If you are interested in sharing a group ticket with other participants, please use the event chat for your arrangements. As it is a circular hike, arriving in Herrnburg by car is also possible.

Please play nice and only sign up if your are 100% sure that you will join! Unreliable people (no show or late cancellation) may be excluded from future events with limited capacity. Repeat offenders will be banned from the group.

As always, this is a free event, but voluntary donations are welcome and help me cover the costs of running the group. Nobody is expected to give, only do so if you can afford it and would like to. Look out for the violet donation box toward the end of the hike.
