Workshop: (How) Does Advertising Drive Sales?

Details
We are happy to announce our first hands on workshop in 2019, which introduces a new format at our meetup and opens new possibilities to learn together with other R users to solve questions regarding specific use cases in a beginner friendly and welcoming environment. As usual, doors open 15 minutes in advance (6.15pm), before the workshop starts (6.30pm).
In our first workshop Michael Stanko will introduce us to the following topic:
(How) Does Advertising Drive Sales? Introduction into Multivariate Linear Regression with Interaction Effects in R. A Hands on Workshop – (BYOD!)
Linear models belong to the simplest but most robust models. Within two hours we try to understand the main mechanics of the main type of linear models aka OLS (ordinary least squares) Regression and the output generated by R. We’ll use a dataset containing sales data and ad spending in three different media categories. We’ll explore the relationships between sales data and the media employed in different numerical and visual ways.
Course of the workshop:
Introduction to Linear Models (introductory presentation)
Hands-on part I – simple regression :
Import raw data
Exploratory data analysis (EDA)
Transform data
Select and build model
Understand model output
Do some prediction
Why and how to model interaction effects (introductory presentation)
Hands-on part II – multivariate regression:
Set-up extended model
Interpretation of results
Visualization of different models / Comparison
Outlook (presentation) + Q&A
Linear models with non-linear data / mix of continuous+categorial data
Feature selection (forward-/backward / penalized models)
Requirements:
Prior knowledge: first steps in using R with RStudio / basic statistics
Technical: Own device / R Version 3.5.2 and RStudio Version 1.1.463 already installed + packages tidyverse and jtools
Language: Slides will be in English / Talk depending on the audience in English or German
