Web Performance Meetup Revival – Predictive Preloads and WebPageTest Scripting

Mark your calendars for the first Hamburg Web Performance Meetup in 2023! We want to revive the meetups and get together regularly for exciting talks and to strengthen the local perf community.

We will start with the first meetup on March 23rd, 2023 at the Speed Kit office on Stresemannstrasse 23 in Hamburg.

Doors open at 6:30pm. We'll provide pizza and cold drinks.

We have 3 great talks this time and would follow up with a fun web performance quiz for everyone to participate:

• Exciting WebPageTest Scripting by Tobias Baldauf

In this session, we'll dive into interesting features of WebPagetest scripting applicable to all its flavors. Learn to establish a stable baseline, keep taps on 3rd parties, run A/B comparisons and test specific interactions of the user journey.

• Predictive Preloads by Erik Witt

The premise is very simple: loading resources that the user needs next before they are needed leads to a big gain in the performance of your web application. So why again isn't everyone doing that already?
Lets explore the difficulties and approaches and look at a preloading system that is A/B tested across over 100 million users.

• Reducing Layout Shift with Custom Fallback Fonts by Brian Ramirez

You go to a website and start reading the text as soon as it appears. But then the web font loads and the rest of the content shifts. How annoying! In this talk, we’ll go over how to adjust system fonts to reduce layout shift.
