Every day, a doctor in Germany spends on average nearly two hours doing paperwork — not treating patients, not making diagnoses, but typing, dictating, and filing. That's time lost to patients who are waiting. It's a problem everyone in healthcare knows, yet it stubbornly persists.

Medistella, a young startup from Regensburg, thinks AI can change that — for good, and for real, not just in theory. Their solution transcribes and structures patient consultations automatically, using specially trained speech recognition that actually understands medical terminology. The result feeds directly into existing practice management systems, keeping the workflow familiar while slashing the documentation burden.

But here's the twist: building the technology turned out to be the easier part. Getting a skeptical, time-pressured GP in Landsberg am Lech to actually adopt it? That's where things get interesting.
How do you build trust with physicians who've been burned by overpromised "digital solutions" before? How do you navigate Germany's strict data protection requirements while still deploying modern AI infrastructure? And how do you design a product that fits into a one-person practice that doesn't have an IT department?

Florian Zenk, CEO of Medistella and part of the BioPark Regensburg accelerator program, will share the real challenges and hard-won learnings of bringing AI into the everyday reality of niedergelassene Ärzte in Germany. Expect honesty, concrete insights, and a hands-on look at the product.
After the presentation, we discuss within our interdisciplinary health hacker community — physicians, caregivers, engineers, programmers, students, and hackers.
