Details

Changing Perspectives is a monthly talk series dedicated to stories of transformation. Each event invites an inspiring guest to share how a shift in perspective opened unexpected paths, new discoveries, or even a new way of living. These talks are not about abstract ideas alone, but about real turning points; an open invitation to reflect on how even small changes in our perspective can spark creativity, courage, and new directions in life.

The series is initiated and hosted by Dr. Thalia Traianou, astrophysicist and postdoctoral researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), Heidelberg University, and member of the Philosophical Society of Heidelberg.

The Science of the Pivot: My Journey from Lab Scientist to Argentinian Tango
How does a career move from the microscopic world of bioscience to the social architecture of Argentine Tango? In this talk, Dr. Simge G. Yüz shares her journey of professional evolution, from a career in science to the direction of an Argentine Tango school.
The transition was a process of constant learning, supported by business mentorship and the resilience to adapt as professional landscapes shifted. By framing her career through the lens of a "pivot," she explores how scientific discipline and business logic can be combined to build a life centered on human connection and community building. It is a reflection on how we apply our expertise to new formulas for success and purpose.
