IKIGAI: Cultivating a Life Worth Living – in times of Grief
Details
In Japanese, ikigai means “a life worth living.”
In times of grief, ikigai invites us to meaningful living, by starting small and simple, cultivating small daily joys.
It is finding a renewed sense of beauty in the broken cracks and scars of life. Ikigai is a practice for meaningful experiences: meaningful work, rest and play, nourishing relationships, and honest conversations held in safe spaces—where we can simply be, sit in the present, in silence, without fear, judgment, or pressure to “move on.”
Rooted deeply in Japanese wisdom, philosophy, culture, and language, ikigai offers a compassionate lens through which to meet grief. Ikigai helps me to honor who I was before my losses, who I am while grieving, and who I am slowly becoming, when choosing a life, worth living.
