The link above is the famous Steve Corell & Stephan Colbert Sketch with also David Razowsky, back in Second City Chicago. So, the first time they improvised this together, the audience loved it so much that they revisited it and sketched it out until they felt the characters were perfect. This is known as classic "Sketch comedy" - a piece generated from Improvisation, then turned it into a script for the acting to began. This is what this course is all about!

This is a 3-months workshop (6-sessions), designed as an intensive insight into how Second City writers produce such great sketches, as well as learn to work with a group ensemble.

Sessions take place two Thursdays per month, and registration is for the full cycle of six sessions, as each session builds on the previous one. However, if you cannot attend one session, your Group will let you know of the constantly new decisions made....

YOU WILL;

  • Learn to put together an Improvised scripted sketch from scratch in an ensemble of five students.
  • Together you will write your own 30-min sketches & learn to rewrite your improvised texts like a true playwriter!
  • You will learn to serve the premise & realise what it takes to make a good scripted piece.
  • You will implement the tools -specifically as a group, to block-out your sketch as a director would!
  • You will decide on costumes & props
  • You will discover what in depth-characters will need to serve your premise.
  • You will need to learn lines by heart like any other scripted Theater!
  • You will need to choose what acting-tools the characters will focus on (based off the ones you learned in Level #1 course)
  • You will produce an entire 30-min SKETCH- Chicago style Show, AND, need to perform in it too!
