Static websites are great. They are fast, easy to host, and safe. But in the end, they are static. On the modern web, however, we’ve become used to dynamic experiences with content that loads on demand.

I’ll talk about my original motivations in building static sites, and how it’s still relevant this day. I’ll show you how you can build your own static-site generator as a hobby project, and why it’s worth it. Lastly, I’ll talk about the challenges that I have faced with making Nanoc the powerful and efficient static-site generator that it is today.
