My name is Takanari Nishi. My wife, Akie, has participated in Japanese tea ceremonies in Japan, London, and Frankfurt. She will be leading the tea ceremony for this Meetup.

Join us at the Japanese Culture Club Frankfurt as we delve into the world of tea and explore the rich traditions of the Japanese tea ceremony. During this Meetup, you’ll have the opportunity to witness both traditional and modern approaches to preparing and serving tea.

The Japanese tea ceremony is an art form that dates back more than 1,000 years. It is not merely about drinking tea, but a carefully choreographed ritual of graceful and deliberate movements. To become a tea master requires at least 10 years of dedicated study and practice.

The essence of the tea ceremony lies in Harmony (和), Respect (敬), Purity (清), and Tranquility (寂).

The tea ceremony embodies the spirit of Japanese hospitality. Please enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, known in Japanese as 一期一会 (Ichigo-Ichie) — “a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.”
