Seamless Monolith Decomposition: Strategies for Zero-Downtime Migration" (EN)
Level: Intermediate to Expert
Breaking down a monolithic application without impacting uptime is a challange on its own. In this session, learn the step-by-step process we used, leveraging Change Data Capture (CDC) to migrate historical data into separate persistence stores. We'll explain how our phased approach—from backfilling data to shifting write and read operations—enabled us to gradually transition to a microservices architecture with no downtime.

About the Speaker
Jakob Fiegerl is a lead engineer at Bitpanda, where he focuses on scaling systems and building resilient, high-performance backend services using Java and Kubernetes. With more than 8 years of hands-on experience, Jakob has worked across various areas—from frontend and native app development to backend engineering. This broad experience gives him a well-rounded perspective on what it takes to create reliable and efficient solutions. When he's not coding, you’ll probably find him tinkering with new technologies or working on a side project.

Evil performance testing
The infamous “Pointy Haired Boss” is promoting his new flagship product - GRUNTMASTER 7000. Let's follow the fictional journey of a prospective customer struggling with performance test reports, percentile charts, coordinated omission and workload models.

About the Speaker
Siegfried is a grumpy Senior Software Engineer infamous for his motivation skills and management presentations. When not writing Java backend code he tinkers with performance testing & engineering, helps at the Java Meetup Vienna & DevFest Vienna and never spend enough time on the bicycle.
