Join us for a hike on a somewhat historic trail around the village of Hauenstein (Hääschde in the local dialect) that is traditionally known for shoe manufacturing. The industry obviously declined because of international trade, but some outlet stores are still around and even open on Sundays. There's a shoe museum but we won't have time for that.
Historically, I think part of the trail used to be the workers' daily walk to the factories.

Hike details and sights:

  • length: 15.2 km, walking time around 5 hours plus breaks
  • ascent around 400 hight m (which is around average of our hikes)
  • some imposing rocks - We might be able to do some simple climbing, which is completely optional of course.
  • There's a local restaurant around half-way through the hike. Good for drinks, local (but mostly unhealthy) food, bathroom break.

Getting there:

  • Take the RE (direction Neustadt) from Karlsruhe Hbf, platform 101 at 10:05.
  • Change to an RB train in Landau Pfalz, track 5,
  • arriving in Hauenstein Mitte at 11:13.
  • You can coordinate sharing a group ticket with Christof in the comments.
  • Coming by car? Please join us at Hauenstein Mitte or write me in advance if you want to joing somewhere else.

What to bring:

  • lots of water, at least 1-2 l
  • snacks/ food for lunch time
  • weather-appropriate clothing

Any questions, comment on this event or message me in English or German.
I encourage you to contribute 2-5 € per year (not per hike!) to cover membership costs. Meetup has been getting quite expensive.
If you can't give for any reason that's alright, you're still welcome to join!
