Speaker One:
Maik Schumacher, Solutions Engineer Consultant, Confluent
Title of Talk:
Share Data across clusters, regions, and clouds with Apache Kafka:
Link different clusters with Confluent Cluster Linking
Abstract:
Cluster Linking enables you to directly connect clusters and mirror topics from one Confluent cluster to another. Cluster Linking makes it easy to build multi-datacenter, multi-region, and hybrid cloud deployments. It is secure, performant, tolerant of network latency, and built into Confluent Server and Confluent Cloud. Cluster Linking is a powerful geo-replication technology for:
- Multi-cloud and global architectures powered by real-time data in motion
- Data sharing between different teams, lines of business, or organizations
- High Availability (HA)/Disaster Recovery (DR) during an outage of a cloud provider’s region
- Data and workload migration from a Apache Kafka® cluster to Confluent Cloud or Confluent Platform cluster to Confluent Cloud
- Protect Tier 1, customer-facing applications and workloads from disruption by creating a read-replica cluster for lower-priority applications and workloads
- Hybrid cloud architectures that supply real-time data to applications across on-premises data centers and the cloud
- Syncing data between production environments and staging or development environments
In this Meetup, Maik will present Cluster Linking and live demo some of its capabilities.

Speaker Two:
Horst Mundt, Director Field Engineering, Databricks
Title of Talk:
Delighting your marketing team and your customers: Building a real-time end-to-end data product for Real-Time Bidding
Abstract:
Real-time bidding (RTB) is a subcategory of programmatic media buying. RTB firms established the technology of buying and selling ads in real time (~ 10ms ) in an instant auction, on a per-impression basis. Transactions happen on a marketplace platform. Advertisers want to know the “viewability” metric of an ad - whether or not it was actually seen by users. This gives marketers a more precise measurement about whether or not their messaging and campaigns resonate with their customers.
In this Databricks demo, a walkthrough of a process utilising Kafka streams hosted on Confluent Cloud for data ingestion and Databricks to build models and real-time inference to predict ad viewability using bid data will be given.
Bio:
Horst Mundt joined Databricks 2 years ago. He is leading the specialist solution architect and professional services team for CEMEA, working with customers on projects in the area of large scale data engineering, streaming, data science and data warehouse.
Holding a university degree in mathematics, Horst has been in the IT industry for 25 years in consulting and tech manager roles in the areas of infrastructure, data and cloud.
