We're back with another interesting topic, this time in english!

Abstract
After some experimentation, Rust has now received the accolade and is officially allowed in Linux kernel development. Is it worthwhile for "normal mortal" software developers to use it?

With over 20 years of experience in "high-level" scripting languages from the Python/Ruby/PHP world, I have taken this journey and report, after more than a year of transitioning, about how it feels as a "high-level developer" to encounter the peculiarities of the "premier class" of system languages, namely Rust. Initially not because it "had to be", but to learn more about programming in general — the conclusion at the end covers whether and when it is worth the effort, what advantages and disadvantages there are, and when it would be better to stick to high-level languages.

Our speaker Herbert Maschke:
Born in 1984, I've been a software developer since before 2000, starting with PHP 3. My main domain expertise is in e-commerce, with additional background in administrative accounting (Sage) and a few years touching data analysis and ML. Long-time Yii Framework user, switched to Laravel some years ago. Currently learning Rust in my spare time. I practice Test-Driven Development and like features defined in Gherkin.

Pizza and Drinks are on codecentric, thanks a lot!
