On Thu. April 23rd, Stratford Festival on Film will start releasing their full-length films to the public for free, for a limited time. Let's celebrate the birth of Shakespeare starting with a chat from the lead actor Colm Feore, followed by the launch viewing party, and ending with the King Lear film. Note: you will need an internet connection and the ability to stream audio and video to see this performance.

An aging monarch resolves to divide his kingdom among his three daughters, with consequences he little expects. His reason shattered in the storm of violent emotion that ensues, with his very life hanging in the balance, Lear loses everything that has defined him as a king – and thereby discovers the essence of his own humanity.

Stratford Festival on Film
Started a few years ago. Films were and are still recorded and released on DVD, then offered on Amazon, and then on Cineplex screens in HD. Last year, the group enjoyed Coriolanus on film at Cineplex Dundas. Filming is live before a Stratford audience during the Stratford Festival, and every angle is covered from eight camera angles.

For the first time, Stratford Festival is streaming 12 of their most successful, full-length, Shakespeare productions - for free - beginning on Shakespeare’s birthday, April 23, with King Lear. These films have received 16 Canadian Screen Award nominations and four wins, including Best Performing Arts Program for the debut film of the series, King Lear. This is the Festival's response to physical distancing for the Coronavirus - "Since you can’t visit us at the moment, we’ve decided to visit you at home!"
