Known and Unknown: Polish Chamber Music by Chopin and Noskowski

Details

Join violinist Marta Hunziker and cellist Boris Stansky of the Munich Symphony and Professor Mirosława Sumlińska, Vice Dean of the Instrumental Department at the Academy of Music in Gdansk for a night of known and unknown classics of Polish chamber music. Chopin's Sonata for Cello and Piano in G minor has one of the most luscious, beautiful themes that simply sweeps you away. This sonata was born from a friendship between Chopin and the celebrated Belgian cellist August Franchomme. (Hear a version here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3thZnim4jY )

Zygmunt Noskowski (1846-1909) was a composer and conductor of orchestras including the Warsaw Philharmonic. In his lifetime, he was one of the more influential Polish musicians, known for his orchestral works and for teaching the next generation of leading Polish composers.
