NordTech - Frontend Meetup

Details
Join us on February 9th for NordTech - Frontend!
In our first meetup of 2023, we're focusing on frontend. Talks will cover JS optimization, localization, security, and the pros and cons of monorepo. Come learn and socialize with our team and the Berlin tech community.
Important - If you can’t make it, sign up anyway, as we’ll share the recording afterward.
Agenda:
6.30 PM - Doors open, beverages and snacks
7.00 PM - Welcome
7.05 PM - Talk 1: "Optimizing JavaScript for Speed: Essential Tips" with Aleksandras Vasinas.
This talk will dive into key concepts for enhancing the performance of JavaScript, such as utilizing memorization, selecting appropriate data structures, and the BigO. We will utilize rather simple techniques to make the browser, V8, and CPU happy and mitigate performance hiccups and sometimes even bottlenecks. Furthermore, coding practices that may seem advantageous initially but can negatively impact performance will also be discussed.
7.30 PM - Talk 2: "Localization: Not everyone speaks English" with Edgar López Aguilar.
In this talk, we will examine the importance of localization and translation in creating a globally accessible product. We will discuss the reasons why it is crucial to consider localization early in the development process and how proper translation can greatly impact the user experience and overall success of a product.
7.55 PM - Talk 3: "Is your React App safe?" with Varghese Babu.
React is a well-designed front-end framework that considers application security. However, developers can still make mistakes and use insecure APIs, vulnerable components, or otherwise do the wrong thing, which leads to a Cross-site Scripting vulnerability (XSS). Here’s how real-world React applications get hacked.
8.20 PM - Talk 4: "From POC to Monorepo" with Stefano Veltri.
Hear about our experience, from refactoring select pages to scaling our entire front-end system. This talk will cover the pros and cons of monorepo and why it ended up being the best solution for our use case and culture.
9:00 PM - Food, drinks, and chatting
10.00 PM - Doors close
More about our speakers:
Aleksandras Vasinas, Front-end Developer - As long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in precision and computers, so it was only a matter of time before I delved into the world of programming. Now, it’s my fourth year in this field, and as a Front-end Engineer at NordSecurity, I couldn’t be happier. I’m surrounded by experts who help me grow my experience, and now I get to share it with you.
Edgar López Aguilar, Front-end Developer - A javascript developer with a passion for creating globally accessible products. With a background in both front-end and full-stack development, originally from Mexico and now based in Berlin, Edgar understands the importance of localization and translation in creating a seamless user experience for people from all over the world.
Varghese Babu, Senior Front-end Developer - I am a software engineer who loves to play with JavaScript and its ecosystem. Always likes to learn new things by breaking the happy path. Proud father, traveler, and meatatarian.
Stefano Veltri, Senior Front-end Developer - Coder. Musician. Nerd. Questing and gaining exp points on a daily basis. I approach coding with a human-centered mindset, constantly seeking to improve.
