This is a nice moderate 9 km hiking exploring Arthurs Seat State Park. The trail is well marked and covers some steep sections of hills that make for a good workout.. Enjoy many great views over Port Phillip Bay.

Lots of wildlife hanging around along the route that you may see, including: kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, and echidnas.

Arthurs Seat McKellar and Kings Falls Track

This week, we'll go find some big trees!!

Beginning at Dowey Spur rd, we'll follow a section of the 'Walk into History' (VHC) track that runs through State Forest in vicinity of Powelltown.

This 12km walk follows disused tramlines from the early 1900s, and runs through many fern gullies and atypical Mountain Ash Forest. Perfect habitat for lyrebirds... (and leeches!). We continue past two old mill sites and cool temperate rainforest towards the Tall Trees Reserve - home of the some of the largest trees in the state, including the magnificent Ada Tree. We'll complete a lollipop circuit back to our cars via the Island Creek circuit and Federal Mill site.

This is a relatively flat track - a few undulations. There is a log crossing across a small creek... this requires a bit of balance as the logs are in the water... Weather maybe varied too- spring has sprung, but still expect conditions to be quite damp and muddy! Still, a superb time of year to visit this forest type, but bring some dry footwear for the trip home! Too, drive with caution on wet gravel roads....

Following, we'll head to Cunningham's Hotel in Yarra Junction for lunch...

NB- There are no facilities at the beginning of this walk- closest are at either Powelltown or Yarra Junction.

Into the Ada... Dowey's/Ada Tree Circuit; Yarra State Forest

This is a 2 day / 2 night trip to Falls creek to do some great hikes on the Bogong High Plains

Accommodation is at the Howman's Gap Discovery Camp in 3 x 6 bed dorms ,each with twin en-suites. The Centre is very modern with terrific facilities.

**Falls Creek to Mount Cope via Wallaces and Cope Hut.**

**0830** This is a 20 km loop (graded moderate to hard) ,starting at Langford West Campground, we hike past Wallace's Hut (Victoria's oldest Alpine Hut) continue to Cope Hut the head to the summit of Mt Cope.(1837 metres) for panoramic views We return back via the Alpine Walking track to complete the loop. Hike will take 6-8 hours.

**Watchbed Creek to Mt Nelse**.

This is a 12km approx out and back hike and is described as moderately cha;enging. Starting at the Watchbed creek trail head and follows the Big River Fire Trail and meanders through Snowgum woodlands alongside Watchbed creek. The trail emerges into grassy plains and intersects the Australian Alps Walking Track. From here we depatrt the main trail to the Summit of Mt Nelse.

Please note, walks are classified as moderate to hard so please keep in mind when RSVPing.

Participants will need bring their own lunch for both walks, although there is usually plenty left over from breakfast to cobble a lunch together.

Please try to carpool where possible.

Organizers reserve the right to change itinerray at their discretion.

PLEASE NOTE : This hike is 2 and half hours drive from Melbourne CBD.

MEETING TIME 8.45AM FOR 9AM START.
11km hike moderate difficulty (Grade 3 rating) . Good level of fitness and endurance required for this hike .

The 11km loop follows old narrow-gauge tramlines and aqueducts that were part of Victoria's first hydroelectric scheme, which began operating in 1929. The area was also historically significant for its timber industry.
​ It winds through beautiful, lush Mountain Ash forests and cool temperate rainforests, featuring towering trees and fern-filled gullies.

​Highlights include
​Rubicon Dam: A small, historic dam at the end of the tramline track.
​Trestle Bridges: You will pass several historic timber trestle bridges, including the rebuilt Beech Creek Trestle and the Lubra Creek Trestle.
​Aqueducts and Power Stations: You walk alongside parts of the open aqueduct system that still carries water to the operating power stations
