Event 7: Quantum Computing Today: a Forschungszentrum Jülich Perspective

Details

Welcome to the 7th meetup of our group “Quantum Computing meets Business - Rhineland”! For this event we have invited Dr. Daniel Zeuch, a quantum computing specialist at Peter Grünberg Institute for Quantum Computing Analytics (PGI-12) as our guest speaker.
PGI-12 is an institute at Forschungszentrum Jülich dedicated to the research of quantum computing, quantum algorithms, quantum information and quantum technologies in general. The industrial application of quantum computing is part of the institute's focus as well.

Agenda:
17:00 - 17:10 CEST - "Welcome Note" by Organizers
17:10 - 18:10 CEST - Quantum Computing Today: a Forschungszentrum Jülich Perspective, by Dr. Daniel Zeuch (PGI-12)
18:10 - 18:45 CEST - Q&A Session

Abstract: At Forschungszentrum Jülich, research and development of various quantum technologies is under way. The quantum computer, which is perhaps the most well-known of these technologies, is said to harbor enormous computational potential that could have a major impact on a wide range of industrial applications. What are the reasons behind this, and what are the biggest obstacles on the road to a fully functioning quantum computer? In which fields can we use a quantum computer? In this talk, we address various aspects of quantum computing that are relevant to answer these questions. After an introduction to the inner workings of a quantum computer, we give insights into the nature of some possible applications and viable hardware realizations. We further describe an illustrative example of a simple quantum algorithm. In the second half of the talk, we also cover a few current quantum computing developments, focusing mostly on Germany and Forschungszentrum Jülich.

You can use the Teams online client or browser ("continue on this browser") which are free to use to join our session.
