Rust 1.0 Anniversary Meetup
Details
Rust stable is turning 1.0 and that's a reason to meetup.
We have two great talks lined up:
Maciej Hirsz: Writing a JavaScript compiler with Rust
https://github.com/maciejhirsz
It's not necessary to compile JavaScript, but we do it anyway, and for good reasons. However sometimes in the blitz of productivity it might be good to take a step back, look at our tooling and ask: "is this the best we can do?" So lets take a brief look into the rocket science behind compilers, see why Rust is an excellent choice for the job and how it might help improve the JavaScript ecosystem a bit.
Ryan Levick: Rusty VMs and Emulation
A lot of software, especially older software, is meant to run on specific machines. Whether it's games for a specific platform or some embedded system for a particular piece of hardware, many times we may want to run code on a different machine than it was intended.
In this talk we'll be exploring how to solve this issue by writing an emulator in Rust for a little known "computer" (or rather virtual machine) from the 1970's known as CHIP-8.
Accessibility status of the venue: The venue is wheelchair accessible through an elevator. All doors are wide enough for a wheelchair and there are facilities large enough. Please take note that the toilets are missing handles, though. Please be in touch if you have any further questions.
