This is an easy hike by the Rhode River on flat natural surface trails that wind through the woods and waterfront at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC). We'll meet at the SERC Visitors Center which has nice restrooms and interesting exhibits about wildlife and history on the Rhode River.
HIKING THE TRAILS AT SERC
The SERC is open to the public for nature hiking on its private trail network. Free parking is available in the lot by the Visitor's Center. Be prepared to show a photo ID at the security gate when you enter the SERC grounds.
The SERC grounds are a scenic mix of forest, open fields, and modern buildings dedicated to environmental research and education. It's a nice place for a relaxing hike in a natural environment by the water.
This event is suitable for anyone who can walk on natural surface trails for a couple of hours. The total distance will be approximately four miles.
Full details and directions are available on the SERC website:

AFTERWARD AT PIRATES COVE IN GALESVILLE
After our hike, we'll drive five miles to Pirates Cove restaurant in Galesville to enjoy good food and drinks. The restaurant has a beautiful waterside location with impressive views of the Rhode River and boats docked at the adjacent marina.
As a general rule, our SHR group gathers in the bar area where we can freely mingle and get separate checks with no hassles about group ordering. We also receive much better service by ordering and paying directly at the bar.

FINAL DETAILS
We'll need good walking weather for this event. A little rain won't stop us, but we won't go in miserable conditions. I'll post an update and send out an email by 10:00 am if we need to change plans or cancel.
I hope to see you there!
