Veranstaltet von Simsbury Land Trust's Hiking Group
Details
On February 16 at 1:00 pm we will be completing a strenuous, moderately paced, picturesque hike for fitness-focused individuals on Simsbury Land Trust’s Owen-Mortimer trail. The hike will take us up the ridge before connecting to Penwood and ending at a lovely viewpoint. Following the hike all are invited to meet at Red Stone Pub for a beer or snack which is located on Jim Gallagher Way in Simsbury.
The Owen-Mortimer Trail has significant elevation change, long uphill sections, and is apt to be icy and slippery in some areas. Milder sections traverse woodlands and open meadows before passing over boardwalks spanning vernal pools and wetlands. From there, a short section following power lines leads to the blue trail; a steep, rocky climb up an old cart road to the yellow trail in Penwood. From here we will climb a bit higher to a viewpoint that overlooks downtown Simsbury. The hike is approximately 4 miles (round trip) and will take about 2 hours to complete.
There is an unpaved and unplowed parking lot near 200 East Weatogue Street in Simsbury. This is about 100 yards from the trail head. Street parking also available. Meeting spot will be in the parking lot.
