Confidential computing (CC) is a new and much-discussed security paradigm. It enables the always encrypted and verifiable processing of data on potentially untrusted computer systems - could be your own computer or a machine in the cloud.

While CC can address many security and privacy problems and enables exciting new data-driven business models, only few people know how to use it and even fewer have applied it in practice.

This talk gives a hands-on introduction to CC. It discusses which new tools CC gives to engineers and architects and how they can be used to build truly end-to-end encrypted and verifiable cloud-native apps. We’ll walk through the steps of building/porting “confidential microservices” in Go and meshing them securely on Kubernetes in Microsoft Azure, using open source tooling from Edgeless Systems.

About the Speaker:
Moritz Eckert is Chief Architect at Edgeless Systems, a leading vendor of open-source software for confidential computing. Moritz is a seasoned engineer and has presented at top-tier conferences including Usenix Security Symposium and OC3 in the past. Alongside his professional work, Moritz is part of Shellphish, one of the highest-ranked competitive hacking groups in the world.
