Why wishes?
What would we have wished for yesterday and what do we wish for today?
Which wishes hold the future?

Not everyone is skilled in developing desirable futures to shape the world of tomorrow. However, we all have wishes. They can be very personal, but still affect us all. Wishes bare hope and can be the impetus to make a difference.

In this workshop we are going to approach the different layers of wishes collected from citizens in five regions in rural areas of Germany. Together we want to explore the following: What questions hide behind our wishes? Which sciences offer answers? What has to change for our wishes to come true? What ideas for the future can be deduced? And what steps do we have to take?

About the project
The project "Wishes of Tomorrow" goes on a search for wishes and ideas for the future from citizens in five regions in rural areas of Germany. Different perspectives, moods and topics that move people are recorded to be passed on to local and national politics. Through participation stations in everyday places, such as market squares, parks or retail stores, as well as in workshops, spaces for encounter and exchange are created. Everyone is invited to contribute their ideas and wishes for the future.

The project is funded as part of the "Wissenschaftsjahr 2022 - Nachgefragt!" by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and Science in Dialogue.

Who should be there?

  • People who are interested in the transformative power of wishes.
  • People who want to get to know new participation formats.
  • People who want to exchange ideas with us about interdisciplinary collaboration in the context of shaping the future.

Jantje Meinzer (YOUSE) has spend several years in customer relations and online marketing in the Berlin start-up scene after-which she completed a master's degree in future studies. Today, she is looking for new challenges in the participatory and sustainable design of futures because there is no such thing as one future. Curiosity and the question of how we want to live tomorrow drive her to develop new ideas and consider possible future developments, integrating as many individual perspectives as possible in a solution-oriented way.

Jannis Hülsen and Stefan Schwabe (Matter & Meta) both hold degrees in design and are involved theoretically and practically with transformation processes, participation, science communication, innovation processes, imagining the future and encountering the new. They have led the interdisciplinary research project "Farming the Uncanny Valley" at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) between 2018 and 2021 and are currently collecting wishes in rural regions of Germany for the project "Wishes of Tomorrow".
