Erfahrungsbericht: Mit Team Topologies zu einer DevOps-Organisation

Im Endeffekt liefert jede Organisation ihr Organigramm aus. So weit, so einfach erklärt Conway’s Law den Aufbau von Produkten. Die Team Topologies Methodik bietet hierzu viel Hilfestellung um eine grandiose Software Delivery Organisation aufzubauen, welche eine wünschenswerte Architektur abbildet.

Anfang 2022 machte sich das Team der nexineer digital GmbH auf diesen Weg. Es wandelte sich von einer projektbasierten Ad-Hoc Organisation zu flow basierten Organisation mit stehenden Teams. Im Rahmen des Vortrags wollen wir daher zunächst allgemein auf die Grundlagen von Team Topologies eingehen wie man diese in einem mittelständischen Betrieb einführen kann.

Doch nicht alles läuft nach dem Lehrbuch. Daher wollen wir im zweiten Teil auf Erfahrungen eingehen, welche organisatorischen und architektonischen Maßnahmen helfen um unvorhergesehene Problem zu überwinden. Diese können von einfachen Fragen wie die Roadmaps untereinander abgestimmt werden bis zu komplexen Fragen rund um die Teamidentität gehen.

Field Report: Using Team Topologies to Create a DevOps Organization

The bottom line is that every organization ships its organization chart. So far, so simple, Conway's Law explains the structure of products. The Team Topologies methodology offers much assistance in this regard to build a grandiose software delivery organization that maps to a desirable architecture.

At the beginning of 2022, the team of nexineer digital GmbH set out on this path. It changed from a project-based ad-hoc organization to a flow-based organization with standing teams. In this presentation, we will first discuss the basics of team topologies in general and how they can be introduced in a medium-sized company.

But not everything goes according to the textbook. Therefore, in the second part we want to look at experiences, which organizational and architectural measures help to overcome unforeseen problems. These can range from simple questions like how to coordinate roadmaps among each other to complex questions around team identity.
