• Description: In an era where data volumes grow 10x every five years, we are seeking efficient and scalable solutions to manage and analyze vast amounts of data. This talk traces the evolution from traditional warehouses to modern transactional data lakes, exploring how this architectural shift addresses critical data management and analytics challenges. We'll also examine why and how open table formats like Apache Iceberg are the key enabler providing features such as ACID transactions, time travel, and schema evolution.

Talk 2 - "small data" Duckdb Processing and Interaction with Lake House Formats

• Description: DuckDB is a lightweight, fast, in-process OLAP engine. It is a valuable addition to the platform-agnostic toolbox for building reliable and time-efficient data engineering pipelines. Here are some features I really appreciate about it: out-of-core query execution, Integration with many popular programming languages (Java, Python, C++, etc.), Apache Arrow, and various filesystems; Support for complex types; SQL syntactic sugar, such as pivot, unpivot, list/array transformation, and interaction with popular lakehouse formats like Delta and Iceberg; It complements your lakehouse landscape exceptionally well.
