Open Expat Meetup Frankfurt: "Inti Culti" (Social & Culture)

Let’s return to the fabulous alternative festival Sommerwerft. Its program features theatre, music, modern dance, poetry, cinema and workshops. There are several stages and a big beer garden as meeting point for the colourful mix of visitors. Tonight’s program features concerts and a great theatre show.

Tonight the musical performances are folk-pop and Italo blues/Polka. We meet 7:30pm opposite the music tent from where we can follow the second half of a concert of a German songwriter Jonas Noack that started 7 pm - Those who really like it can of course enter the tent) but the plan is to sit and chill in the beer garden area opposite the tent and have a good talk and drinks/dinner. wraps/Flammkuchen and other snacks, all vegetarian, cocktails, soft drinks, beer/wine, please bring CASH. Instead of the concert, you can also have a look at other performances, e.g. a theatre Workshop.

The first concert finishes just before 8pm and then we try to get the whole meetup group to gather in the beer garden outside the music tent to socialize. Look out for a Meetup sign to find the group.

At 8:30pm there will be another concert of local favorites Gastone, playing blues, pop and Polka that will make you dance, in the same music tent just a few steps away.

Alternatively, people can head to another stage to watch a dance performance of the Joshua Monten dance company(from 8pm)
or the always great impro theatre where the audience decides the plot (from 9pm).

The main theatre performance of the evening starts 9:45pm at the central theatre stage, 100 m from the music tent towards the city. It is a collaboration between festival host Antagon theatre and frequent guest Ondadurto theatre from Italy. It’s a piece about migration and refuge, taking the perspective of the migrant.

Entrance to the festival is free, there will be voluntary donations collected for organisers and artists after each show. Donations and drinks/food sales are the main sources of funding for this festival, its survival also depends on us!

There are a few sheltered areas at the festival, e.g. the tent where the concert is, so a few rain showers wouldn’t impede to have the Meetup. In case of heavy rain the event will be cancelled. If the day temperatures don’t reach 25 degrees, please bring a jacket as it gets chilly by the river.

The popular Saturday drinks/picnic sundowner event is back to the lawn of Maincafe!

Standing with your back to the river facing the Maincafe bar, you need to walk between 20-100m to the right and find us on the lawn. For orientation- the lampposts right by the river have numbers at ~2m altitude. At the start of the event we indicate location using lamppost numbers, usually close to number 28 or 29

The concept of this Meetup is a little picnic and drinks and a relaxed chat while enjoying the sunset over the Frankfurt skyline. You can totally bring your own drinks and food (and share some if you like) but also get drinks and snacks at Maincafe. A full dinner is not part of the event given restaurants are a bit of a walk from the venue. But there could be a late dinner group or continuation of the Meetup in another venue, which can be spontaneously decided. You can also join the event at a later hour, after dinner. Though Maincafe accepts card payment, it is strongly recommended to bring some cash!

This is the perfect Meetup if you’re new in town, keen to meet people from all over the world, or open-minded Germans. Exchange travel plans, new ideas and hints what’s there to do in Frankfurt, find new best friends and practice your languages (main language is English, but German, Spanish, French, Italian and sometimes Russian, Arabic, Mandarin and other languages can be practiced).

Event details:
For those who travel from Frankfurt, we meet at 18:05 Downstairs at platform 104 for the S1 direction Wiesbaden, we enter in the front car. You need a Deutschland- or other RMV ticket to travel. Participants can share a group ticket for up to 5 persons, please flag beforehand if you need one.

We take S1 to Wiesbaden departing 18:12 at platform 104, to arrive 18:54 in Wiesbaden Hbf. If you come from somewhere else, you can also meet us there, we wait a few mins to gather in front of the station. Then we have a short bus ride from across the street to the venue - bus stop „Dernsches Gelände“. Our Meeting point with the Wiesbaden Meetup group is at the bottom of the stairs to Cafe Lumen, possibly a few steps up close to the column. we will reach there around 19:10-15. if you arrive later you’ll find us between the historic walled area below Cafe lumen and the outer row of wine stalls. This place will be the base for both Meetup groups. You can meet us directly there if you arrive later, only at 8:30 or 9pm we may take a stroll to see the more remote parts of this larger festival.

We will try wines - mostly from the Rheingau region - from the over 100 stalls that the festival offers and also have take-away dinner at the festival. They also serve beer and non-alcoholic drinks. Please note that many stalls may not accept card payment, so make sure to bring some cash.

There‘s also live music on 3 stages at the festival, which we will explore in case of interest .

An early return connection would be leaving the venue by bus no.1 at 21:22 plus RB10 at 22:32, platform 7 wiesbaden Hbf, to reach Frankfurt at 22:04. Past wine festivals have shown that preferences are different and there could be an early (as above), middle (1 hour later, same bus//train) and late (2 hours later, same bus/train) group to return, people sharing a group ticket need to agree on one train.
