We spend years learning how to write better code, but much less time learning how to navigate the human side of being a software developer. How we handle pressure, compare ourselves to others, respond to problems, and even talk about work can have a huge impact on how we feel and perform.

In this first meetup, I'll share a few things I underestimated throughout my own career—and why I think we should be talking about them more.

A little about me

I'm Vasi, a software developer and coach. I've been working in software development for over 20 years, from small startups and contracting to big companies like Google.

Over the years, I've learned that some of the things that have had the biggest impact on my career weren't technical skills at all—but the way I managed pressure, dealt with self-doubt, approached challenges, and interacted with the people around me.

I created The Soft Side of Software Development because I think these conversations deserve more space in our industry.

What's something about being a software developer that you had to learn the hard way? What skills or habits have made a difference to the way you work and feel?

Come with your own experiences, because this isn't meant to be a lecture. It's a conversation.
