D is for... Dr Johnson's House LATE: 'Johnson Crime & Punishment' talk
D is for... Dr Johnson's House LATE: 'Johnson Crime & Punishment' talk
**Join us at Dr Johnson's House for an evening talk: 'Johnson, Crime and Punishment, in Four Cases'. Tickets include a welcome drink and chance to view Dr Johnson's House.** Join us for a fascinating exploration of Samuel Johnson's entanglements with ideas of criminality and causality. Four experts offer their insights into ways in which Johnson wrestled with wrongdoing, his own, as well as those of other people, and tried to stake out the terms of a shift in the way society addressed and corrected them. Crime was rife in Georgian London, but so too was punishment. In the eighteenth century, you could be hanged for more than 350 offences, including wounding a hawk, fraternizing with gypsies, and defacing some, (but not all) of London's bridges. People were sent to prison for being in debt as was the case with the poet Richard Savage; and street walkers were sent to Bridewells for 'correction', while those who paid them for their services went scot free. Samuel Johnson had a boundless compassion for people in desperate situations, and at the same time, an unwavering sense of Justice. All his life, he vied with the difficulty of reconciling these two pillars of his character, and of good society itself. How successful he was, and how far he influenced the shape of the century that followed, will comprise some of the questions that these series of short talks will raise. **Read more here:** [https://www.drjohnsonshouse.org/post/johnson-crime-punishment-four-cases](https://www.drjohnsonshouse.org/post/johnson-crime-punishment-four-cases) **MEET DETAILS:** **5.50pm: MEET OUTSIDE DR JOHNSON'S HOUSE** **Address:** 17 Gough Square, London, EC4A 3DE **6.00pm: ENTER DR JOHNSON'S HOUSE** **6.00-6.30pm:** Drinks **6.30-8.00 pm:** Talk **8.30pm - Late: PUB SOCIAL (optional)** We'll head to Ye Old Cheshire Cheese pub for a social chit chat over drinks. **Address:** 145 Fleet Street, London, EC4A 2BP **TICKETS:** **You MUST buy a ticket before you sign up to this event.** **Tickets are £20. What Does Happiness Really Mean? — A Curated Dinner Conversation (50% off food)
What Does Happiness Really Mean? — A Curated Dinner Conversation (50% off food)
**Meet2Click Curated Conversations** Each Meet2Click Curated Conversation dinner centres around a carefully chosen topic or shared interest, designed to spark thoughtful conversation and meaningful connection. Modern life is often driven by success, productivity, and constant achievement — yet we rarely pause to ask a deeper question: **What does happiness really mean?** Many of us equate happiness with achievement, status, or temporary pleasure. But research suggests happiness is something more intentional — built through meaning, satisfaction, and connection. If we don’t define it consciously, we risk chasing the wrong version of it. At this small-group dinner experience, we will explore: • Can happiness be built? • Does success actually make us happy? • Is happiness more about meaning or enjoyment? Inspired by the happiness framework developed by Harvard professor and bestselling author Arthur Brooks, guests will receive a short overview of his key ideas two days before the event to reflect on ahead of our discussion. This is not a debate. It is not a lecture. It’s a relaxed, friendly conversation around the table with curious, open-minded people. If you value thoughtful conversation and meaningful connection, join us for an evening dedicated to exploring what happiness truly means — and whether we are living in alignment with it. **Launch Season Benefit** During our initial Meet2Click dinners, guests will enjoy **up to 50% off food** at the restaurant. This introductory benefit is available for a limited launch period. Food and drinks are paid individually, directly with the restaurant. ⸻ Details Location: Shiro Sushi, London Date: 27 March **Ticket price:** £15 per person *(includes your seat and contribution to the evening — food and drinks ordered and paid individually at the restaurant)* Seats are intentionally limited to encourage meaningful conversation and genuine connection. Additional Information: Photos or videos may be taken during the event for promotional purposes. Should you wish to opt out, please notify the host upon arrival, and your preferences will be respected.

Let's try a Friday Night Fish Fry!
Let's try a Friday Night Fish Fry!
We thought of one of the interesting things that can be enjoyed at this time of the year. We will be meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a "Fish Fry" in Marian Hall on Friday, March 27th at 5:00 PM. It might be fun for you to experience what has become a tradition on the Fridays before Easter. They will have fried fish or baked fish, French fries and Cole slaw, as well as beverages, all for $16.00 for adults. They will have other beverages and desserts available for sale, as well. We have never tried this, and sometimes there are quite a few people at these events so we hope that we will be able to find each other easily. I'll try to have signs outside Marian Hall that Identify our group. We hope to have you join us!

COUNT RMH Housewarmer Volunteering (Ronald McDonald House)
Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process. Fast track • Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell). • Show up and try it out. • Complete application, etc. later. Normal process • Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/). • Attend orientation in advance. • At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility. • Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM. • Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895). The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014. Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
