Join Rebecca Lynne as she leads a two hour generative writing workshop, featuring prompts, inspiration and feedback drawn from the Gateless method. In the mythology salons, a character from mythology will be chosen prior and will be briefly described so there is no need to prepare prior. Then a related poetic prompt will be shared followed by writing and sharing time with feedback following the Gateless method. ALL GENRES ARE WELCOME! Rebecca Lynne is a certified Gateless facilitator. Beginning with presentation of a unique communication or expression, she will lead the group to a prompt and then time to write. She will invite the group to share what each has created, with feedback following the Gateless method. Let Rebecca help to inspire you, create community, and help to unearth the writing that’s inside. This workshop is $15 per session or 11 sessions for $150. This group is for anyone interested in writing in English, whether it be prose or poetry or non-fiction. We get together once a week to listen, critique and support each other in our work. Attendees bring something they have written, which they read aloud. They then receive feedback from the rest of the group. The size of the group is limited to 4, so that everyone is able to receive a full 30 minutes of constructive feedback including reading time. We are an anglophone group and everything is conducted in English, in fact not everyone who comes can speak French. Please bear this in mind if you sign up.

Thanks for joining us, writers! Because of COVID-19, we are hosting this with Zoom. When life returns to normal then we will be meeting again in downtown Portland. For now, we will be sending out the Zoom link with the stories that are sent by email the Saturday before the workshop. Please understand that we limit attendance to 15 or 16 writers to allow all the writers a chance to critique and have a voice during the workshop. Before you come: New? Some of us print out the stories and make comments on the hard copies to give to the writer, but this is not obligatory. We always start with something we like about the story and then move into talking about what needs work. Writers must attend at least once before submitting a story to get a feel for the group. Carr Co., where he was a part of the team responsible for the development of Carlyle near the King Street METRO. After leaving the Carr Co, Ragland formed his own investment banking concern, which successfully assisted the Federal Government in the disposition of over $5.0 billion in assets, including land, office buildings and sub-performing (non-performing) real estate loans. Ragland served as Vice-Chair of the City of Alexandra (VA) Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals; Chairman of the Prince George's County (MD) Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the City of Bowie (MD) Economic Development Committee and Chairman of the Bowie (MD) Business Innovation Center (Bowie BIC). He is a member of the faculty of the Bowie State University College of Business and a member of the Board of Visitors of Towson University. Ragland has been directly involved in the development, marketing sales, and management of over 5,000 acres of land, 10 million square feet of office and commercial space, and 10,000 apartment/cond units. His favorite passion is teaching his kids how to make serious money fixing, flipping, and owning single-family houses.

The topic for April is "Water" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills.
