“Dune” by Frank Herbert: let’s read and discuss!

It’s the fiction round of the book club and it’s time for a classic: We’re reading Dune by Frank Herbert, first published in 1965, a masterpiece of science-fiction, which changed the whole genre and influenced pretty much everything published after it: Star Wars probably wouldn’t exist without Dune, Octavia E. Butler called Frank Herbert her “favorite author” and just recently it was turned into a movie (again).

At 600+ pages this one is quite the brick and by far the longest book we ever read in the club, so we’re giving us a bit more time, meeting at the end of January, virtually via Zoom to discuss!

Pictured on our photos is the beautiful deluxe edition, which is more expensive, but features quite a bit of nice artwork. It makes sense to take a look around to find the edition appealing to you most!

We discuss in English and/or German, depending on which languages are present, but most likely the discussion will be in English. You definitely don’t need a literature degree to participate! It’s important to us to listen to each other, to treat everyone with respect and to create a safe setting.

The discussion takes place virtually in Zoom and the meeting link will be added to this event and on the day it happens. Just check back here half an hour before the meetup starts!

We usually discuss for 1.5-2 hours. It doesn’t matter if you have actually finished the book – everyone is welcome, as long as they have read at least a few pages and bring their impression. Watching the movie is of course also recommended!
