Online: WiBD DUS Event #8 - Mastering your Journey into Data

Details
At our 8th meetup event, we have a super line up of exciting speakers who will start us off on an unforgettable journey into Data
When we look at our life, no two journeys are the same. Where we started off, and where we end, is not linear. Many of our paths take twists and turns in order for us to reach our end goal. When we look back, what did it look like back then, and where are we now – did we take enough risks? Did we take a leap of faith?
We can say the same about a path into the data industry, no two journeys are alike, and they are definitely not linear – but where do we start? What are the possible roles that one can find in data, and do we need to be a mathematician or a statistician to make the move? How can we apply the skills we have today with a career in data to make the move?
These 2 speakers will excite, delight and inform us about their journeys into the data industry
AGENDA
18:00 – Login and Welcome
18:15: "One year in data – a binary decision?"
My insights and recommendations
Anastasia Dobasis, Business Intelligence Consultant, Areto Consulting
Anastasia will talk about her side entry into the big and inspiring world of data analytics. Her experience will give you a real and relatable position of how to get into data analytics, what you need for mastering the step into the data jungle and what you should be careful about.
Hence, the talk will not be a check-list of the needed technical skill-set but rather a supportive guide to find your own way into tech-related jobs. Use her obstacles and experience as your learning and take-home message
18:45: "The people ecosystem of Advanced Analytics"
Dr Michael Weichert, Head of Advanced Analytics and Business Partnering, Vodafone
Quite often when talking about Big Data, the subject is reduced to the use of AI/ML on some data and the rare individuals being capable to do this. Over 80% off all Big Data Projects fail. I’ll not elaborate on all the dimensions but focus on one that is crucial-. People and their capabilities and roles in making Advanced Analytics (AA) business relevant.
In my view the success of Advanced Analytics depends on understanding of the different roles involved in an Advanced Analytical process and the right combination of skills. There is much more than the unicorn doing the ML wonder box, like data/feature engineering, connecting business and analytics.
The relevance of the latter is quite often underestimated. In this talk he will, along the iterative process of Advanced Analytics, introduce the roles, their profile and responsibility to make any Advanced Analytics project successful
19:30 Closing
We are excited to welcome you to our virtual event!
See you there!
Stay Safe and Healthy.
