We read Astral Codex Ten, a blog that spans across rationality, science, psychiatry, medicine, ethics, genetics, AI, economics, and politics. https://astralcodexten.substack.com/about
You should join if you're interested in any of these topics and want to nerd out with other nerds! You don't have to read the blog to come to our events. Everyone is welcome - please feel free come even if you feel like you're "not the type of person who normally would fit in at such events".
We mostly have very informal meetups, sometimes including dinner, games, or hiking. Occasionally we have more structured lectures or mini-workshops.
Astral Codex Ten was formerly called Slate Star Codex. The author, Scott Alexander, has written over 1,500 posts. Don't worry, you're not expected to have read all of them!
If you're not sure where to start, check out this compilation of some his greatest works here from one of our meetup members:

ACX Ballots Everywhere: 2025 Greater Boston General Elections (Part 1)
17 Hills Court, Malden, MA, USHaving created an ACX community voting guide for the preliminary elections, we’re following it up with one for the general. We’re adjusting the process to take advantage of the slightly less compressed timeframe to produce a guide that more comprehensively takes into account all participants’ views.
If you're interested, start by reading the Google Doc that contains the details. You can help out before the event by looking up your sample ballot and making sure it's in there, and by contributing to the Values and Priorities, Information Resources, and Open Questions sections.
At this first in-person meetup, we'll review what’s in the doc and make sure all the races and questions that people are interested in are included. We'll vote on values and priorities; in cases where a substantial minority of people disagree with the majority on a values or priorities question, we can note this and include information from the minority perspective. We will then ask people to volunteer to research specific questions of interest and to choose and write up endorsements. Multiple people can volunteer to write up endorsements for the same race, either together or separately, if there’s interest.
The research and writing tasks will then happen over the following week, before the next meetup.

17 Hills Court, Malden, MA, USThis is the follow-up to the first in-person meetup, after people have spent a week doing research and writing up endorsements.
We'll read and review everyone’s work. We'll vote on any amendments we want to make to the written endorsements, and then to ratify them and to include any dissenting opinions that have sufficient support. The final document will then be sent to Scott, who has agreed to link it in the Open Thread post.
