Named after the glowing light organs of deep-sea creatures, the Stuttgart-based synth-wave duo Photophor, founded in 2024, addresses socially relevant issues such as changes in social structures, individual misconduct, and careless handling of personal data in their powerful, finely crafted lyrics. Their debut album Der Wahn als Methode reached number 2 in the German Alternative Charts—between VNV Nation and The Birthday Massacre—while their recent single “Timetravel” entered the Top 10, and a new album is set for release in spring.

MONOCHROME LIGHTS (Postpunk/80s Wave, Mannheim)
The Mannheim post-punk/new wave duo Monochrome Lights moves like a restless spirit between ambivalent emotional worlds of warmth and cold, of confinement and vastness, of melancholy and euphoria. The reverb-laden, synth-soaked atmosphere quickly reveals the musical influences of the 1980s – influences that have left a lasting mark. From a corridor of urban present-day life, a space opens up that leaves you suspended somewhere between intimate closeness and almost endless expanse.
