Polar Explorer's Path: Bad König & Odenwald Nature 🥾🌲

This time we will hike 19 kilometers through the Odenwald and experience the spirit of historical discovery. The name of the trail „Carl Weyprecht Trail“ honors the polar explorer and Bad König native who co-discovered the Franz Josef Land archipelago in the Arctic Ocean in 1873.

This loop hike will really get our leg muscles in top shape after we’ve made our way through dense forests and open areas with stunning views. There are a few prominent landmarks like the Weyprecht Temple, a wooden viewing pavilion built in 1882, from where sweeping views open up across the valley and low mountain ranges.

The trail strikes a perfect balance between the tranquility of nature and the historical center of Bad König. We will get to see old half-timbered houses and two historic castles in the town where Weyprecht spent his youth. The small town also offers the ideal finale for hikers after a long day on the trail. Home to the Odenwald-Therme, the town boasts the region's thermal springs— which could be the perfect spot to soothe tired muscles at the next visit.

After the hike (around 17:00) we will go to a restaurant in Bad König.

== Meeting point / Ticket ==
At the train station in Frankfurt at track 12 (Frankfurt Hbf) at 10:00.

Our train RB82 starts from platform 12 at 10:24 and we arrive at Bad König Bf at 11:34. We take the train RB82 (platform 1) back at 19:19 from Bad König Bf to Frankfurt Hbf and will be there at 20:32.

For most people sharing a "Hessenticket" will be the cheapest option (if you don't have a Deutschlandticket) to cover the costs for the transport. The ticket costs 43,50 € and is valid for up to 5 people. At the meeting point we will figure out the ticket situation and buy tickets according to our needs. Don't buy a "Hessenticket" in advance. We will share the total costs of the Tickets needed by the number of people that want to have a spot on it. If you prefer to travel with an individual ticket, of course you can do that.

For people coming by car: We meet at 11:34 at Bad König Bahnhof. Please be there in time!

== IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT "RSVP YES" AND "NO SHOW" ==
We have to put some simple rules in place to ease the planning and organizing of hikes and to allow more people to attend. Please don't RSVP YES to simply hold your spot on the event and then drop out at the last minute or simply not show up having decided to do something else that day. Doing so you are not letting other people attend the event, not attending yourself. Repeated history of NO SHOWS could lead you to be bumped to the waiting list or to be removed from the group. The RSVP time is usually closing 1-2 days before the event, in order for people on the waiting list to have time to prepare for attending. Out of respect for others please update your RSVP Status from YES to NO if you will not make it to participate, before the RSVP deadline. If you have to cancel your attendance after the RSVP time has closed, please send a message to the Organizers, so that people from the waiting list can jump in.
