We have a very special guest coming in to speak - Burt Herman who co-founded the Hacks/Hackers movement.

Thanks to Snowden journalists are now aware of the massive surveillance we are subject to. Because this is done in secret, without scrutiny or transparency our ability to freely read and share information without being monitored is under threat. But we also now know what tools work against some of the most powerful adversaries. You can teach yourself the most effective means of keeping your work private and safe from spying in a day. To ensure the safety of your sources, yourself and your story. Your communications can be made indecipherable, untraceable and anonymous.
• Becky Kazansky (@pondswimmer) from Tactical Technology will talk about threat modeling for the rest of us.
Digital security can be an overwhelming topic for all of us. Building a digital security practice requires an individual approach depending on the kind of work you do. The good news is that it doesn't have to be overwhelming. I’ll present some simple ways to contextualize and prioritize security considerations, and share a few “security stories” from human rights defenders and journalists around the world.
• Sanaz Nayeb from EIT ICT Labs Berlin will talk briefly about the Idea Challenge, a competition, supported by EIT ICT Labs and European Commission, with focus on Cyber Security and Privacy, Internet of Things, Urban Life and Mobility or Smart Energy Systems. Winners get up to €40,000 prize for spin-off project or business idea development, as well as six months free office space (if you need any), and mentoring from experts and corporate partners at the EIT ICT Labs Business Development Accelerator. If you don't know what Hacks/Hackers is:-
The worlds of hackers and journalists are coming together as reporting goes digital and Internet companies become media empires. Journalists call themselves "hacks," someone who can churn out words in any situation. Hackers use code to aid and abet this storytelling. We are here to bring together those interested in this intersection between Journalism and Technology.
