We're going to Maulbronn Monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site. We can go in for sightseeing after the hike (10€ fee or 5€ for students) or admire it from outside. The other historically significant place is the Eppingen Lines, the site of a fortified defensive line from the 17th century. We might see some replica structures along the way, but nothing of the original fortifications.
This is a fairly easy hike and much more beginner-friendly than the usual hikes we do.
Walking time will be just around 2 hours, which leaves plenty of time to warm up in a cafe or explore the monastery.
I'd like to emphasise that if you are not Christian there is absolutely no problem in visiting this site, just in case someone feels uncomfortable.
Getting there:
- take S4 at Karlsruhe Bahnhofsvorplatz (in front of the station building), departing 10:17
- in Bretten, change to RB (direction Mühlacker) (not much time for changing there unfortunately)
- arriving in Ötisheim at 11:17 - we start hiking from there.
What to bring:
- water (1-2 l), snacks
- weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes
